The French Quarter Parklet Opening Party PWL Partnership Landscape Architects Inc. Jun 6, 2014 : 3:00 pm to Jun 7, 2014 : 8:45 pm

The French Quarter Parklet is becoming a reality! Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France and PWL Partnership are eagerly anticipating its official unveiling on Friday, June 6th.

Occupying two street side parking spaces just west of Main Street on 21st Avenue, Mount Pleasant’s newest public space will provide a destination for passersby to rest, relax and ruminate while enjoying the sites and sounds of the vibrant neighbourhood.

The parklet’s strength lies in its accessibility and simple, coherent forms that encourage a multitude of uses. Key features include timber planters and benches, some of which have been ‘dipped’ as an ode to the parklet sponsor and chocolate lovers alike!

The French Quarter Parklet opening extravaganza is a free public event that will be taking place on Friday, June 6th between 3 and 9pm. The festivities will include some introductory remarks from Anne-Genevieve Poitras, owner and chocolatiere at Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France, an official ribbon cutting ceremony… and French desserts of course! Not lacking diversity, gelato, organic cotton candy, chocolates and drinks will be available. The chocolaterie will also be using this opportunity to introduce a new menu item, Liege waffles! For this special occasion 21st Avenue will be closed between Main Street and the alleyway, allowing visitors to roam freely and kids to beautify the street with provided sidewalk chalk and bubbles.

Nearly a year in the making, the parklet’s path from conception to realization has been a concerted effort between Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France, PWL Partnership, Tradeworks and Holland Landscapers made possible by VIVA Vancouver’s City Parklet Pilot Program.
