Landscape Cafe - Mine Reclamation in a Changing World BC Society of Landscape Architects Apr 26, 2014 : 10:30 am

The BCSLA CE Landscape Cafe, Mine Reclamation in a Changing World with Anne Moody, MSc, RPBio, PAg, will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Four Season Hotel Vancouver, Arbutus Ballroom, 791 West Georgia Street. Registration: 9:30 am | Presentation: 10:30 am

The reclamation process in mining starts at the mine application stage.

It includes planning removal of buildings and waste; controlling issues like acid-rock drainage and metal uptake, as well as re-vegetation of the site. The Mines Act (1969) and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC specifies a number of reclamation requirements, including; soil salvage, re-contouring of disturbed surfaces, erosion control, re-establishment of land capability and productive capacity, ecological risk assessment and monitoring programs to document success. MEM's aim for reclamation at closure is for ecological restoration.
