CAUSA (Collective for Advanced and Unified Studies in the Visual Arts) has functioned, since 1983, with the aim of opening channels of communication in relation to independent curatorial research. CAUSA strives to develop autonomous scholarly analysis and interpretation (including problems of intelligibility) within specific cultural-historical contexts. Innovative curatorial research projects have been realized by CAUSA in association with a nexus of institutional collaborators: Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, University of British Columbia / Walter Phillips Art Gallery (The Banff Centre) / Presentation House Gallery (North Vancouver) / North Vancouver Museum and Archives / City of North Vancouver Library / Emily Carr University Library (Vancouver) / Art + Architecture Library, University of British Columbia / Vancouver Art Gallery Library / York University Library (Toronto) / Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden (Vancouver).
