The Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba is dedicated to excellence in the design of the human environment.  We offer an undergraduate program in Environmental Design and fully accredited graduate programs in Landscape Architecture, City Planning, Architecture and Interior Design, as well as a PhD program in Design and Planning.  We aim to provide an inspiring learning environment based on ethical principles and profound knowledge in order to prepare students for the complex demands confronting practitioners in the design disciplines.  Additional information on the Department of Landscape Architecture is available at: http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/architecture/programs/landarchitecture/index.html.

We are seeking applicants with a passion for design in landscape architecture who are able to work across disciplines and to apply innovative and creative approaches to their work.  Candidates must have professional experience in landscape architecture and/or landscape planning, and the ability to teach design studios and practice-oriented lecture courses, and to advise thesis / practicum students.


The position includes teaching studios and lecture courses in the ED 3 and ED 4 years of the Landscape + Urbanism option and/or the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program.  Teaching load will be subject to the forthcoming Faculty of Architecture Guidelines and will generally comprise two studios and one lecture course or one studio and two lecture courses in each academic year.

The appointee will report to (and be assigned teaching duties by) the Head of Landscape Architecture.

Education: 

Person Specification

Candidates will be reviewed in terms of the following criteria:

  • Masters degree in Landscape Architecture (or overseas equivalent)
  • at least five years of post graduation experience including recognised design accomplishment at a range of scales
  • eligibility for full professional membership of the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects / Canadian Society of Landscape Architects
  • demonstrable research ability and achievement
  • competence in studio teaching and in practical skills instruction 
  • competence in current digital technologies (with GIS abilities being an asset).
