City Planner

The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.

Reporting to the Director, Planning and Development Services, the City Planner is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the daily operation of the City’s Planning Division, including overseeing employees engaged in these functions.   This position is also responsible for preparing, implementing and monitoring a comprehensive Official Community Plan, the City’s zoning bylaws and managing the City’s development review processes. Working effectively with the public, consultants, developers, business representatives and government officials is a key responsibility of this position.

 

Education: 

You bring a post-graduate degree in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture or urban planning, supplemented by a minimum of seven years progressively responsible planning and supervisory experience, preferably in a combination of municipal and private sector environments. Familiarity with Tempest Prospero is an asset.  Membership or eligibility for membership in PIBC and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.

The successful candidate for this position possesses an open, team-oriented leadership style and welcomes the challenge of seeking continuous improvements in organizational efficiency.  You have demonstrated abilities in developing, creating and implementing urban design solutions.  It is essential that you that you are able to develop and maintain positive relationships with the public, key community partners, industry stakeholders and internal departments.
