Alta Planning + Design, Inc. is an international consulting firm with a mission to create active communities where bicycling and walking are safe, healthy, fun, and normal daily activities. We specialize in bicycle, pedestrian, trail, park, greenway, and roadway planning, design, and implementation in addition to outreach and education programs. Alta Vancouver is seeking a creative design and planning professional to continue to grow Alta’s Canadian operations. POSITION PRIORITIES A general understanding of the field of non-motorized transportation, the ability to collaborate across discipline boundaries to support the delivery of solutions which meet client expectations is required in order to successfully meet the requirements of this position. The essential priorities of this exempt, salaried position are to: Contribute to the production of high-quality reports and analyses. Participate in public outreach and other project deliverables. Assist Project Managers in the development of project deliverables. RESPONSIBILITIES + TASKS Contributing to or sometimes leading the development of cost estimates and design details for construction documents. Creating plant palettes and landscape design recommendations. Supporting project objectives such as aligning trails and other design elements to meet appropriate accessibility guidelines. Assisting in or sometimes leading the creation of illustrative graphics, concept sketches, and construction drawings as required for project deliverables. Contributing to or sometimes leading the design or redesign of roadways to follow complete street principles. Contributing to the development of proposals, statements of work, contract addenda, and scope changes. Developing, editing and producing newsletters, final reports, plans, memos and workshop materials. Contributing to blogs and internal whitepapers.

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a related field required.

Experience: 

Three (3) or more years of experience in a consulting environment or public entity. Knowledge, and understanding of, and interest in the field of active, non-motorized transportation. Working knowledge, and understanding of, the design process. Exhibits initiative and the ability to work with little supervision. Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects, if necessary. Ability and willingness to travel. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Exhibits accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills. General understanding of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint or similar products. General understanding of TAC Geometric Design and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Design Guidelines, NACTO Urban Bikeway and Street Design Guidelines and relevant Provincial design guidelines. Proficiency in an enterprise-wide resource planning and project management tool. PREFERRED SKILLS + CERTIFICATIONS Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Photoshop, ArcGIS, SketchUp, GoogleEarth GIS, or similar products. Marketing knowledge of the Canadian market. Experience using Deltek Vision. An understanding of ADA requirements and other US transportation design guidelines would be advantageous. Performing GIS data processing. Professional registration in at least one province.
