Please see full job description in website link Position Summary The Grounds Worker maintains the TWU Langley campus grounds along with the Grounds team. Duties & Responsibilities 1) In conjunction with the Grounds Manager and Grounds team co-workers; complete all aspects of grounds maintenance for the campus. This includes the following duties that are appropriate to the season of the year: Lawns - regular maintenance includes watering, mowing, weeding, edging, fertilizing, repairing, etc. Creates, builds and cares for new lawns as directed. Flower Beds - regular maintenance includes watering, weeding, raking, fertilizing, hoeing, transplanting, etc. Creates, builds and cares for new beds as directed. Trees - regular maintenance includes watering, spraying, trimming, pruning, etc. Plants and cares for new trees as directed. Shrubs - regular maintenance includes watering, weeding, spraying, trimming, pruning, etc. Plants and cares for new shrub areas as directed. Sports fields - to meet or exceed Industry Standards of excellence by daily mowing during the growing season, regular fertilization, seeding, aeration, and other normal practices as deemed necessary. Experience using various types of sports turf machinery is a must. Irrigation - regular maintenance, and repair as necessary. 2) Work with the supervisor in using pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and hormones to properly control and promote healthy plant growth. Maintain an environmental awareness of the type of products used. 3) Assist with snow and ice removal from all campus sidewalks and parking lots before the arrival of staff, faculty and students during and after winter storms. 4) Assist with the preventative maintenance and repair of the Grounds dept. equipment and tools. 5) Work in a flexible and adaptable manner with all interrelated campus departments and specifically assist the Maintenance department staff if the need arises and the request is made. 6) Act in a manner that exemplifies Jesus Christ in all on and off campus contacts thereby living out the mission of the department and the University.

Education: 

Education: Grade 12 required. Grade 10 with 5+ additional years of direct grounds training will be considered.

Experience: 

Experience: 3-4 years of direct experience in commercial grounds management and maintenance including 1 years of grounds equipment experience. Full knowledge of plants as well as experience and knowledge of trimming and pruning a variety of plants/trees. Skills: Skilled and knowledgeable in the year round maintenance and management activities necessary to maintain professional, attractive campus grounds. Strong interpersonal skills required with a wide variety of staff, faculty and students. Abilities: Able to approach and accomplish the duties in a logical, organized and disciplined manner meeting the standards expected. Able to establish goals consistent with the vision for the University grounds, independently plan required activities and implement with knowledge and forethought. Critical thinking and a strong ability to problem solve is an asset. Proven ability to work well as a contributing member of a team.
