Intermediate Landscape Architect

Binnie has an exciting full-time opportunity for an Intermediate Landscape Architect to join our Landscape Architecture, Sports & Recreation Team in our Burnaby office, situated near the scenic Deer Lake and City Hall area. Our Landscape Architecture, Sports & Recreation Division is a leader in providing planning, design and construction administration services for outdoor sports and recreation facilities for Municipalities, School Districts and others throughout Western Canada. Our Landscape Architecture, Sports & Recreation Division is comprised of a dedicated team of ten team members with expertise in landscape architecture, civil engineering, horticulture and arboriculture, irrigation design, and construction administration. As part of our design team, you work alongside a talented group of experienced professionals in the landscape architecture and civil engineering fields. Our typical assignments include landscape architecture for land development, parks and recreation, boulevard streetscaping, public open space master planning, public consultation, and a wide variety of sports facility projects including synthetic and natural turf sports fields, running tracks and sports courts. You will have an opportunity to work on a variety of landscape, parks and recreation, streetscape, and land development projects under the direction of the Landscape Architecture Manager. Landscape design is a key aspect of the position, requiring a strong background in horticulture and a thorough understanding of the design process from planning through to project construction. Day-to-Day: • Lead the complete landscape design process on a project basis • Prepare landscape drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D • Prepare schematic, conceptual and detailed design drawings, with associated cost estimates • Prepare design and planning stage reports • Participate in client meetings and periodic public consultation events during evenings and weekends • Collaborate with other members of Binnie’s multi-disciplinary team including civil engineers, surveyors and project managers • Transition quickly between different project types and scales throughout the day as required • Actively participate in the design process, engaging with the rest of Binnie’s Design Studio to develop sound technical solutions with creative flare

Education: 

• Completion of a BCSLA recognized Landscape Architecture program (undergraduate degree is preferred)

Experience: 

• 5 to 7 years of directly related experience in a professional office setting • Valid Driver’s License • Experience in landscape architecture for land development (commercial, multi-family residential and institutional) • Ability to independently lead and deliver full landscape architecture services on a project basis • Ability to coordinate and guide other team members including landscape designers, CAD technicians and others on a project basis • Ability to prepare and convey full landscape production drawings and specifications • Strong written and graphic communication skills, specifically with Adobe CS, Sketch Up, as well as good hand graphic abilities • Strong AutoCAD skills • Understanding of construction detailing, specifications and construction processes • Knowledge and experience navigating deliverables for municipal land development permitting Build your career with Binnie as a Landscape Architect.
