Intermediate Landscape Designer

Dinosaurs Unearthed creates multi-sensory, dynamic and interactive dinosaur exhibitions that entertain and educate audiences. We seek a creative, enthusiastic Landscape Designer with a minimum 5 years’ work experience to work on a permanent dinosaur exhibition overseas. As a specialist within the design team, the Landscape Designer will work with exhibit designers and content developers to create a series of recreated “natural environments” in an indoor museum complex. These environments will feature animatronic dinosaurs, theatrical lighting and projected elements, water features, rockwork, special effects equipment, etc. The designer will be able to envision dynamic, immersive environments that create exceptional visitor experiences that are also scientifically and historically accurate. Ideal candidates will be creative thinkers with technical prowess. Working with a passionate and innovative team at our offices in Richmond, British Columbia, the Landscape Designer must be comfortable collaborating with team members both within and outside the design department. Duties and responsibilities *Works with the exhibition design team to develop initial concepts for recreated environments *Works with content developers to ensure the scientific and historical accuracy of environments *Develops the environments and specifies all landscaping elements – plants, rockwork, water features, railings, paths & raised walkways *Sources all landscaping materials as required *Uses Vectorworks to produce landscaping plans and elevations *Uses Illustrator and Photoshop to create presentation drawings for concepts *Creates hand drawn sketches, physical mockups, and 3-D models as needed to communicate design intention *Works with the design, production & manufacturing teams to produce detailed drawings *Works with the design, production & manufacturing teams to produce and maintain a list of materials required *Participates in internal design team meetings, internal design reviews and presentations Skills and Qualifications *Ability to conceive and create exceptional and innovative visitor experiences *Knowledge of principles and techniques of landscape design *Knowledge of design software such as Vectorworks, Sketch Up, *Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop *Ability to make refined aesthetic judgments that are appropriate to the exhibition criteria & exhibition goals *Ability to organize, represent, and communicate information effectively through design *Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment in anticipating problems before they arise *Ability to specify designs in drawings, scale models, and written instructions *Ability to integrate technical and operational requirements into design *Ability to listen and respond to ideas and issues from other staff and colleagues in the field *Ability to work productively and collaboratively with the creative team in the conceptualization, design and installation of the exhibition Dinosaurs Unearthed is a dinosaur exhibition company that offers a range of immersive experiences designed to engage and entertain audiences.
