Junior Landscape Designer / Landscape Architect

van der Zalm + associates (VDZ+A) is looking for an enthusiastic Junior Landscape Designer / Landscape Architect who shares our core values (Together – Responsive – Integrity – Creative – Involved).  You will work within a team environment assisting our project managers on a variety of unique and interesting projects.  Our multidisciplinary team of landscape architects, civil engineers, and arborists work side-by-side to create integrated sites for a wide-range of projects from urban parks and high-rise towers to townhomes and sports fields.  In addition to working in a range of scales, you will work in a range of contexts from Vancouver to Kelowna and all across Canada.

VDZ+A pride ourselves on our studio culture.  We are a tight-knit group of twenty staff who all engage in design at various levels from concept development through to technical drawings.  In addition, our Langley based office provides a range of company sponsored initiatives for our staff.  Maybe you have seen our company carpool from Vancouver (the famous VDZ Vanpool)?  We also have Friday afternoon design critiques (with drinks), VDZ Thursday Night Basketball, and the coolest CAD Club in town.

Education: 

Education/Experience:

Professional degree in Landscape Architecture
0 to 3 years of experience in a professional office.
Any nursery or technical experience from a contractor’s perspective – an asset

Experience: 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Create concepts and design ideas with our project management team.
Prepare technical detail packages: layout and dimensioning, planting, specific project details, grading and drainage, as-builts.
Prepare presentation graphics for design panel or open house:  sketch-up models, plan view renderings.
Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, area take-offs.
Assist in the research of materials and details on behalf of other staff members.
Manage the technical materials catalogue in our library to en-sure easy access for all staff.

Skills & Attributes:
Ability to work well in a non-structured, Design team environment
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite ACAD 2010 or later, Sketch-up.
Strong organizational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Design/Technical-oriented, strategic mindset
