Capital Projects Coordinator - Parks & Trails

Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the regular full-time position of Capital Projects Coordinator – Parks & Trails within the Parks & Trails Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, the Capital Projects Coordinator – Parks & Trails is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of parks and trails capital projects, ranging from minor capital renovations to major asset replacement. The Capital Projects Coordinator – Parks & Trails also ensures the parks and trails infrastructure adheres to the asset management plan and preventative maintenance standards and operating procedures.

Rate of Pay: 
Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $51.35 - $52.89 - $54.44 per hour (2024 rates)
Education: 
  • Degree in Landscape Architecture/Design, Civil Engineering, Project and/or Construction Management, or a related field
  • Project Management Certificate is preferred 
Experience: 
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressive experience in landscape/parks related construction management
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressive in project management, preferably in a local government setting, involving new construction and renovation work, retaining and coordinating applicable professional services inclusive of civil and structural engineering, environmental assessment, geotechnical engineering assessment, architectural and landscape design and coordinating associated regulatory approval processes  
  • Supervisory experience in the area of construction/project management is required
  • Related experience in asset management is preferred
