The Parks Planning department of the Resort Experience division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Parks Planner. Reporting to The Manager of Resort Parks Planning, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting November 16, 2020 through to December 3, 2021.
The Parks Planner’s role is to plan, design and administer the development of a high quality parks, Valley Trail and recreational trail systems becoming of an international resort community. The position also entails planning, design and project delivery related to the Village and other aspects of the public realm and open space system. The Parks Planner also manages the public art program, reviews and inspects landscape components on proposed larger private developments, and develops policy in support of broader recreation and leisure objectives.
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Parks Planning or similar discipline supplemented by at least 5 years of experience in a similar role including parks and open space planning; conceptual design and development; the process of construction document preparation and tender administration; project management and budgeting; and report writing. Additionally, qualified candidates will be proficient with software such as VectorWorks, Sketch Up, and Esri ArcGIS and will be in intern member, eligible for full membership or, be a registered member in good standing with the BC Society of Landscape Architects.
The successful candidate will have proven experience with effectively facilitating and leading group discussions and public engagement; critically assessing landscape conditions and construction; and writing and presenting reports. The successful candidate is also creative, diplomatic and is a flexible thinker with the strong ability to build and maintain productive working relationships both internally and externally of the organization. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract prior to beginning employment.
