Site Development Designer for work on Cortes Island, BC

Site Development Designer - Request for Proposals

Cortes Community Economic Development Association (CCEDA) Commercial Lot Development

CCEDA is very excited about an upcoming new project to engage with the Cortes Island community about the commercial development of their vacant lot. We invite you to submit a proposal for this work.

CCEDA's overall goal is to develop its commercial property to provide community space for commercial, studio, office, and outdoor event venue needs, as well as infrastructure to support the community’s food security strategy, while facilitating people-friendly, safe, and walkable mixed uses. As anyone who lives on Cortes Island knows, there is currently a shortage of commercial space in the busy "downtown" area of Manson's Landing, and many local small businesses and organizations have had to supply their own buildings, or renovate sub-standard former housing. At least one island business has been forced to close because of the lack of available commercial space.

Site Designer will need to collaborate with other project contractors, including project manager, and community facilitator, and a local senior architect, in developing site design concept and other project aspects. These will help inform a business plan completed by CCEDA’s board. Site designer must have own digital software for plans to site-in aspects such as road access, water and waste-water, electrical, gardens, and overall site design plans.

A senior member of the The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada will be involved in this project and available to assist the site designer.

COVID-safe community engagement may involve on-line meetings and small outdoor gatherings.

Maximum budget for Site Design: $15,000
