Ride the Cycling Facilities  (optional pre-course)Location:  downtown Vancouver

Time: 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm

This 2-day course is designed to bring transportation, engineering, landscape architects, bicycling, cycling advocates and cycling educators, public health professionals up to date with research and practice on

▪    the benefits of cycling,

▪    cycling safety,

▪    facilities that encourage cycling,

▪    safe bike facilities, and

▪    implementation measures.

The course will equip participants with the skills needed to develop and promote cycling infrastructure for busy streets, quiet streets, and off-street locations. It will include in-class lectures and design workshops. There will be an opportunity to walk to nearby locations to observe some cycling facilities. Those who wish to experience a variety of Vancouver cycling facilities can opt for a “Ride the Cycling Facilities” add-on course. It will focus on three facility types shown to be the best to motivate cycling and increase safety. Participants will learn how to deal with complexities that arise in the design and implementation of these route types.

Course faculty includes experts in research and professional sectors affiliated with the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the City of Vancouver, HUB Your Cycling Connection, and Urban Systems.
