Horticulture Manager - Landscape Construction

We are currently seeking an experienced and professional individual to join our team in the role of Horticulture Manager – Landscape Construction. The central functions of the role are to lead, and be accountable for, plant sourcing and planting operations on all projects; ensuring that superior quality plant material is sourced on time and on budget; and effectively manage and direct a planting crew and equipment to perform at an industry leading level. RESPONSIBILITIES SOURCING PLANT MATERIAL - Proactively source high quality trees, shrubs, hedging, container stock and any other plant material needs, including international procurement - Plan, organise and secure plant material for all projects well in advance - Coordinate delivery of plant material and monitor quality of products received - Build strong and effective relationships with nurseries and growers to ensure best service and prices - Assists in the accurate estimation of costs relating to plant material and associated labour for current and prospective projects MANAGE SOFTSCAPE TEAM & OPERATIONS - Layout plant material on site as per planting plan - Ensure that planting operations across all projects are completed to an exceptional quality - Supervise, direct and train crew in planting methods and operations - Direct supervision and coordination of large tree planting; including safe rigging and crane use - Planning and scheduling of softscape activity as it relates to other aspects of project schedule - Accurately schedule softscape crew according to capabilities and constraints

Education: 

- Tertiary education in Horticulture, Garden Design or Landscape Design

Experience: 

- A detailed and thorough understanding of plant material, soil types, plant health and nutrition, pest control, irrigation systems and landscape construction methods - Highly detailed knowledge of all horticultural matters, plants and excellent plant identification skills - Possess an existing network of strong relationships with nurseries, growers and horticultural suppliers - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with clients, suppliers, management and staff and all levels of the business - Ability to juggle competing demands and meet the needs of several projects/teams - Proven sense of urgency and ability to work effectively to deadlines - Experience managing, training and supervising staff, and building a cohesive and high performing team
