Facility Maintenance Technician II - # J0123-2144

The City of Abbotsford’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is currently seeking an experienced professional to join their dynamic team as the newest, full-time Facility Maintenance Technician II.

In this busy role you will perform technical, building service, custodial and maintenance work which varies according to recreation facility activities and requirements. Your thorough knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in pool and arena operations will assist you in pool and ice set up and maintenance. In addition, you will operate related equipment; perform minor maintenance and repair of machines, pumps and filters; perform minor construction, renovation and maintenance of recreation buildings, ensure building security and perform custodial functions for the ice arena, swimming pool, public and multi-purpose areas.

As the successful candidate, you will participate in activities related to special events and program activities; provides assistance to user groups and other organizations using recreation facilities; and ensures security measures are implemented and conforms to facility rules and regulations. Being a team player with considerable knowledge of the applicable hazards and safety precautions, including procedures for handling chlorine, ammonia and cleaning agents used in City recreation facilities will make you an asset to the team.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• Completion of Grade 12 or GED;
• Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of ice-making equipment and refrigeration and pool filtration systems, or equivalent;
• Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence;
• Ice Facility Operator (IFO) Certificate OR Refrigeration Plant Operator Certificate or BC equivalent;
• Level I and Level II Pool Operator’s Certificates from a recognized association or educational institute.

Due to the nature of the job, you must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.

This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $28.69 to $33.77.
