Landscape Designer

Experience: Intermediate to Senior

 

EDA Planning and Urban Design is an award-winning landscape architecture and urban design practice based in Edmonton.  We are currently growing and looking to add to our fast paced studio. Our team works on a wide range of projects across scales: from large scale streetscape corridor plans, regional trail connectivity masterplans, neighbourhood renewals; and down to smaller site design of parks, streetscapes, plazas and custom detailed design of individual site elements.

 

Our ideal candidate is able to take full ownership of projects while working collaboratively with our team of designers and technologists.  You are a well rounded candidate with an intuitive design sense and strong and accurate drawing, review, and technical skills. You’ll be comfortable liaising with and managing client relationships, and working with municipalities to design and deliver impactful and meaningful project work.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working in collaboration with landscape architects, urban designers, and project managers, you have the ability and will be expected to lead and manage the delivery of key project deliverables on a wide range of landscape architecture and urban design projects, under little supervision
  • Design, develop, and review of deliverables will include: construction documents, design reports, 3D models and renderings, for example
  • On site field review and contract administration to ensure quality control of design implementation with an eye for detail

 

Qualifications:

  • High aptitude and design acumen in a diverse range of projects
  • Candidates should have a bachelor degree in landscape architecture or a related design profession, or a diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology with an equivalent level of experience.  Candidates who can demonstrate a portfolio of strong graphic and 3D design skills gained in an allied design role will be considered
  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in landscape architecture, urban planning and design, or an allied design profession with strong technical and graphic design capabilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs suite of tools
  • Strong digital drawing skills including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of construction, materials and implementation practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills working with clients, consultants and contractors
  • As this role will involve construction administration and field review, a class 5 drivers license is a requirement

 

Assets

  • Experience managing and mentoring junior designers and technologists
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with specification standards, cost estimation, project scheduling and coordination of sub-consultants
  • Working knowledge of inspections and application processes with the City of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities in the metro region
  • Strong hand drawing and concept design abilities utilizing sketches, diagrams, and project appropriate design methods
  • Experience with Sketchup, Lumion, Land F/X
  • Education, training, and experience with GIS and software experience with QGIS
  • Experience delivering landscape architecture and urban design projects with Revit
  • Strong table tennis skills
