Back by popular demand, this live and online 4-evening course will be offered again in the Fall at the SFU City Program: City 101 - Planning for Non-Planners: What You Need to Know about Community Planning, taught by Eric Aderneck. Registration is now open.
The course introduces the practice of urban planning and how to build sustainable and complete communities. It is perfect for land-related professionals who want to learn more about urban planning and how it relates to real estate development and associated city-building matters.
Students will learn about the purpose and concept of urban planning in Canada, British Columbia, and the Metro Vancouver region. The course offers a specific focus on planning and development issues in the region, the role of planners and others in building cities, and the interrelationships between physical, environmental, economic, social, and built considerations in planning at different scales.
The course includes defining urban planning theory and concepts, explaining why and how we plan, and outlining the role of participants, stakeholders, and decision-makers in the planning and development processes, and land use tools like plans, policies, bylaws, zoning, and approvals.
